Five years ago, on April 27th 2021, Karly and I accepted orders for the first time ever! These orders came from family and friends (people who have continued to support us over the last five years), but pretty soon, we had friends of friends and then people we couldn’t trace back to us placing orders. Then these ‘strangers’ became familiar names and faces, as they continued to support us week after week (fun fact: the very first ‘stranger’ who ordered from us still orders from us today!)

We are so proud of the community we have grown, both within our kitchen and outside of it! And none of it would be possible without all of you. We have talked for some time about wanting to be able to show appreciation to everyone who orders from us, but especially those of you who shop with us so consistently, and now we are thrilled to launch, beginning May 1st, our new loyalty program - **Reuse & Reward**!

Did you see our new menu we launched this week?? Don’t worry, we kept on some of the recent favourites like Dubai Chocolate parfaits and overnight oats, brought back some classics (kale caesar, we’ve missed you!), and have a few new recipes for you to try (I’m looking at you, Shish*to Citrus 👀).

We got excellent feedback on the chocolate orange parfait from our taste tester (aka our sister-in-law) and I might have demanded we bring back my personal favourite… the butter cauliflower jar 🤤

We hope you love this new menu as much as we do!

Urban Jars Halifax, owned and operated by two women, is proud to be an inclusive space. While we skew heavily female (in both our team and our clientele!), we have welcomed two men into our little kitchen, and will always ensure it is a gender inclusive space.

On International Women’s Day, we want to recognize that women-led spaces are highly collaborative and have higher retention rates than more traditional leadership structures. We see that every single week in the commitment shown by our Energy Exchangers and customers, many of whom have been with us for years. We also see it in the way our EEs bring their ideas and thoughts to the kitchen and share them openly and readily.

Leading this small team and participating in creating a safe and collaborative space is the honour of our lives.

We have a new menu to share with you all and we are verrrry excited about it!! We have lots of new items and some classics.

Be sure to try our new Biscoff cookie parfait and the Dubai chocolate (also available in overnight oats). We also have some new lunch salads we can’t wait for you to try (mango Thai chop salad and the loaded taco bowl 👀). And… it’s that time of year - mini egg protein bites are BACK!!! 🐣

✨ January is UJH Favs ✨

The Favs menu started accidentally. A few years ago, heading into the holiday break, I was feeling really drained and the idea of creating new recipes or even a new menu for January felt exhausting. I came up with the idea to off-load that work and asked YOU, our customers, what jars you wanted to see back on the menu. I combined your answers with our top sellers and the Favs Menu was born!

Now it's an annual menu that I still look forward to as a bit of a mental break and many of you look forward to as a time to get all your favourite jars at once! It's also such a nice boost when we are heading back into work after the holidays, the days are short, and your favourite lunch or breakfast jar can be just the glimmer ✨ you need.
For others of us, we are looking toward creating new routines and habits that we hope will serve us in the New Year, and getting on the meal prep train might be easier when you know you're going to love what shows up at your door each week.
And lastly, if you've been eyeing our products but have yet to order, now 👏 is 👏 the 👏 time 👏. You can pre-order your meals each week before Monday at midnight for delivery that following Friday. Meals are fresh for 7 days, and you won't find yourself going without breakfast or dashing out from work to grab some fast food on your lunch break.

Becoming a parent, whether with your first baby (like me) or a sibling (like Karly), is always an upheaval of your routine. The dynamic in your home changes, and it’s magic ✨ but it’s also incredibly challenging. For myself, if I was able to eat a proper breakfast every morning, I felt more prepared to tackle the day ahead. And the easiest thing I could grab for breakfast was one of our jars! These jars, our protein bites, and an easy peasy skillet for dinner on the days when we needed a break, have been significant in my first four months of motherhood.

If you or someone you know is pregnant, please reach out as we can talk about ways to take some of the mental load of ordering off you during that time! We are here for you 🌱🫙

As a women-owned small business, we’ve always worked hard to keep our meals as affordable as possible, while offering fresh meals and a sustainable business model that reflects our values. We remain proud that our pricing is still below many comparable prepared-meal and restaurant options.

At the same time, running a sustainable business also means valuing the labour that goes into it. Over time, we’ve realized that we’ve been absorbing rising costs—ingredients, operations, and our own labour—in ways that are no longer sustainable or aligned with those values.

Running a business with a sustainable model (plastic free) is only possible with the collaboration of our community. ✨ Together, we have made an impact on plastic waste, and we can only hope to see that grow.
