Most people think I make animals.

I don’t.

I make people.

They just happen to have feathers, fur, fins, or a lighthouse growing out of their backs.

The animal is simply the doorway.

The real sculpture is about the person standing in front of it.

Norma isn’t really a seagull.

She’s every woman who’s been told to age quietly.

Keeper of the Light isn’t really a hare.

She’s about carrying home inside yourself when you’ve crossed oceans and become the place you were looking for.

The Swimmer isn’t really about swimming.

She’s about finally entering your own life before you feel ready.

Molly isn’t about standing with her feet pointing in different directions.

She’s about discovering you can still belong without becoming someone else.

I use paper, paste and paint because they’re ordinary materials.

Just like ordinary lives.

The sculptures simply make those lives visible.

That’s what interests me.

Not making animals.

Making recognition.

Molly, Norma, The Swimmer, and Wave on the Boat now have their own songs.

I am ridiculously pleased about this.

They are companion songs created from my original lyrics using AI music tools — honestly disclosed, because AI is turning out to be a whole lot of fun.

The sculptures are handmade from paper mâché.

The stories are mine, based on my very offbeat humour.

The AI songs are a new way to let these characters wander a little further into the world.

Oh. And they also come with downloadable posters.

Because, why not?

I was feeling a little nostalgic, so I found myself making something African.

This tall, slightly awkward giraffe has ended up on my bedside table. She’s painted in deep red, with patterned markings, long striped arms and legs, and a bowl held firmly in front of her—ready for all my little bedside knick-knacks.

She reminds me of days in the bushveld: the sound of drumming, warm evenings and those enormous, gorgeous sunsets.

Sometimes a sculpture carries you back to a place before you even realise that’s where you were going.

Norma is for the woman who has no intention of becoming beige just because time has passed.

She carries visible ageing with zest for life — the kind that shows up in colour, humour, opinion, appetite, and the refusal to fade into usefulness. She is not trying to look untouched by life. That would be dull, and frankly suspicious.

Norma belongs to women who are still curious, still ridiculous sometimes, still here in the full-bodied sense of the word.

There comes a point when the performance gets tiring.

You are not falling apart. You're becoming older, wiser and just outgrowing the version of yourself that kept everyone comfortable.

I’m feeling very grateful.

Soul Decor: At Home in Your Own Skin has been received with such warmth, and I’m honestly a bit bowled over.

This book began as a way of naming something I kept seeing in women around me — the way a life can look fine from the outside and still not feel fully inhabited.

It is not a decorating book. It is not self-help. It is about home, objects, humour, memory, scars, belonging, and the slow return to a life that feels recognisably your own.
