You brought your friends. And we noticed. ❤️

Back in September, we asked our regulars to bring along someone who’d never been to Main St. Local Kitchen.

And some of you did exactly that!

Our front of house manager, Micah, has been hearing a familiar line from new faces: “We’ve been meaning to come in forever… and now we’re finally here!”

Some of these guests have called Huntsville home for years.

To everyone who has invited a friend, recommended us to a neighbour, or finally walked through our door themselves: thank you. We’ve loved meeting you, and it means so much that our regulars want to share us with their people.

Let’s keep it going. Tell two friends. Let them tell two friends. Better yet, bring them along and make a meal of it.

Every year, we see two kinds of people out on Halloween:

The ones supervising children.

And the children, who are running exclusively on sugar.

We’ve been managing both for years! bahaha.

The Tiny Tots Parade returns THIS Saturday, October 31, and downtown businesses start handing out candy at 10am folks. That’s right. 10am.

Translation:
There are going to be some very excited small humans roaming Huntsville.

And the best way to combat that sugar rush or the crash that follows is with protein. So stop in and check out our Little Foodies menu!

Ryan is kind of our OG breakfast guy.

Long before “brunch” became an event, avocado toast had its own fan club, and everyone started photographing their eggs… Ryan was behind the line cooking breakfast.

So yes. We know our eggs.

And if you’ve ever stared at a breakfast menu wondering what exactly is the difference between over easy and over medium?, well, this one’s for you.

The MSLK Egg Glossary 🥚

Hard Scrambled
Whites and yolks beaten together and cooked all the way through. Drier than a soft scramble, but still fluffy. This is your 'absolutely nothing runny, please' egg.

Soft Scrambled
Also beaten together, but cooked gently so they stay moist, tender and form softer, smaller curds.

Poached
Cracked into simmering water and cooked until the whites are set and that beautiful yolk stays warm and runny. You can order them medium or hard... but Ryan may quietly wonder why. 😉

Sunny Side Up
The iconic emoji egg. Fried on one side until the white is set, the yolk stays runny and the edges get a little colour.

Basted - Christina's fave
Like sunny side up, but hot butter is spooned over the egg to cook the top. Great for people who love a runny yolk but want to make darn sure the whites are cooked.

Over Easy
Fried, flipped briefly, and cooked just long enough to create a thin film over the yolk while keeping the inside gloriously runny.

Over Medium
Same idea, just a little longer in the pan. The yolk starts to firm around the edges but still has some run to it.

Over Hard
Flipped and cooked until both the white and yolk are completely set. No surprises. No runny bits.

Baked / Shirred
Usually baked in a small dish, often with cream, cheese, vegetables or other goodies. The whites set while the yolk stays soft.

Omelette
Eggs cooked and folded around fillings: cheese, vegetables, meat, whatever makes breakfast better for you.

Hard Boiled
Shell on, cooked until both yolk and white are completely firm.

Soft Boiled
Same process, less time. Firm white. Soft or runny centre. Simple and perfect.

To all the folks who 'breakfast' with us, thank you! Early mornings at the restaurant are relaxed, and cheerful. We love feeding the work crews, the first responders, the downtown BIA business people and of course, our local community members who appreciate being served a hearty meal to start the day.

The grill is on, coffee is waiting.

People sometimes imagine shoulder season in Muskoka as everything getting quiet overnight. Restaurant life is a little more complicated than that.

Seasonal employees head back to school or move on.
But locals are still here.
Fall-colour visitors arrive.
Catering keeps happening.
The restaurant still fills up.

Except now, sometimes, there are fewer people behind the scenes making all of it happen.

That is one of the strange little realities of running a year-round business in a tourist town. October asks us to adjust.

We shorten the bench.
We prioritize.
We help each other more.
We occasionally get a little crazy.

And then we come back the next morning and start chopping onions again.

If you own or work in a Muskoka business, you probably know exactly what we mean. Cheers to the shoulder-season crew.

Something keeps happening lately that genuinely surprises us.
Someone walks in. We start chatting. And somehow the conversation becomes:

“Actually… this is our first time here.” Now, sometimes they are visiting Huntsville. But sometimes?

They have lived here for years. YEARS. 😂

We are always incredibly grateful for the regulars who keep choosing us. Some of you have been coming through our doors for so long that we know your orders before you sit down.
But apparently there are still people out there who have never been to Main St. Local.

So we have a favour to ask.

Can you find one person who has never been here:
A neighbour.
A coworker.
The friend who always says, “I’ve been meaning to go there.”
