Did You Know? 🏆
One of our very own regulars at Kipps Lane Fish & Grill is quietly one of the most determined souls you'll ever meet. Meet Jason McComb — and his story is one worth knowing.
Who
Jason McComb — London, Ontario local, homeless advocate, and a man who walked his talk. Literally. Jason himself experienced homelessness over the course of 20 years, and instead of staying silent, he decided to do something about it.
What
Jason launched Walking in the Free World — a solo, self-funded cross-Canada trek under his own initiative, Homeless Happens Helping Hands. No sponsors. No support crew. No hotel bookings. Just Jason, his three-wheeled stroller loaded with his belongings, and a "Homeless Happens" banner flying proud. He did it entirely on his own terms.
When
Jason began his walk in 2014 and pushed on through 2015, covering ground through Ontario and across the Prairies — pausing only when Canadian winters forced him to stop. He resumed each time without missing a beat.
Where
Starting from Newfoundland and heading west across all the provinces except BC. His trek spanned North and South through each province.
Why
To shine a light on people society too often looks past. Jason has lived experience of homelessness and understands the human behind the struggle. His walk was about awareness — reminding every city he passed through that the homeless community deserves to be seen, understood, and cared for....and any/all money raised was donated to the homeless shelters in the cities he walked through !
"There are stories behind stories. The homeless community is riddled with mental illness. Understand there is a reason why we are in this position — and we need to take care of each other."
— Jason McComb
Jason is one of our valued regulars here at Kipps Lane Fish & Grill, and we think he deserves to be celebrated. His bravery, compassion, and sheer determination are nothing short of extraordinary. 💛
