After three years of developing ice cream in my own kitchen, I'm proud to introduce a unique selection of ice cream flavours not found anywhere else in Ottawa. Moo Shu Ice Cream uses predominantly Asian flavours to craft small-batch ice cream from scratch. We are also serving Cantonese-inspired lunches Wednesdays to Sundays.

We rolled into the shop today to find major leaks all over our shop with parts of our ceiling coming down and damage to equipment and supplies. Unfortunately we will have to close our shop today (Monday May 25th). We hope to be open again on Wednesday!! Thank you for your patience!

We do a lot of cool things at Moo Shu, and one of the coolest by far is partnering with .box.of.life to compost as much of our kitchen scraps and fibre waste as possible! Their worms turn fruit trimmings, spent coffee grounds & tea leaves, paper napkins, and cardboard into rich fertilizer for community gardens and houseplants.

In honour of our partnership and of Earth Day, we have a special compost inspired ice cream sandwich. It features chocolate cake dusted with cookie "dirt" and fried potato sticks, with strawberry ice cream in the centre. We chose strawberry ice cream because strawberry tops are probably the thing we feed the worms the most. This treat is vegan and gluten-free!!

Time flies and we're already at the latter half of April! Grab this month's scoops before we switch to May flavours. We've got Honey Lavender & Earl Grey, Semmelschmarrn (Austrian breas pudding), Heirloom Carrot Cake, and Vegan Creme Egg. Also pictured is our newest buttertart: Cantonese Cocktail Buttertart, inspired by coconutty cocktail buns from Chinese bakeries!

Our patio is set up for you to enjoy the extra sunshine we are getting (though it's inevitable Ottawa weather will hit us with another winter spell).

We're open all weekend long this Easter, running regular hours except Monday (11am - 6pm). We've got lots of festive ice creams including:

Chocolate Banana Mini Egg Ice Cream Sandwich (pictured): chocolate banana ice cream set with a layer homemade marshmallow and between mini egg rice crispies!

Robin’s Egg Ice Cream Dip Bar: an annual favourite! Salted duck egg custard in the centre of sweet cream ice cream, dipped in white chocolate gently speckled with blue dye and assorted seed.

Heirloom Carrot Cake (April scoop flavour): a cream cheese based ice cream that tastes like smashed carrot cake! We grate in locally grown heirloom carrots from Heart City Farm and add warm carrot cake spices for a carrot cake effect without any actual cake. (aka this is gluten free!)

Vegan Cream Egg (April scoop flavour): we spent quite a bit of time perfecting a vegan cream egg filling to swirl into a vegan chocolate ice cream! We think it tastes quite accurate to a Cadbury cream egg!

The warming weather also means that this weekend is the last few days to get your ice cream sandwiches bruleed! For those who are unfamiliar, bruleed ice cream sandwiches are when we torch a thin layer of sugar on your ice cream sandwich to give it a creme brulee effect. Monday will be the final day for this until the fall.

Wondering about our long weekend hours? We are open regular hours all weekend (Fri, Sat Sun) then closed early at 6pm on Monday April 6th (11am - 6pm). We'd love to have you join us.

With the weather getting warmer, Monday is the last day for brulée service for our ice cream sandwiches. We also have lots of Easter treats like Chocolate Banana Mini Egg ice cream sandwiches and our famous Robins Egg dip bars!

It's that time of year again! We are looking for seasonal scoopers and seasonal culinary staff to join our team. Seasonal positions run April to October. If there is flexibility/interest to stay year-round please indicate that in your application. (Yes, we can accommodate reduced hours during the school year for students).

We're a few days away from Hinamatsuri aka Japanese Girls Day! Celebrate with us with something pink, white, and green. These are the colors of sanshoku Dango 🍡🍡🍡, a Japanese dessert often enjoyed on the occasion.

Valentine's Day seems like the perfect day to talk about our "Kissed" drinks aka drinks we make with 's Butterfly Kiss beans. It's a natural-processed light roast coffee with rounded fruity notes (think blueberry and lychee) that made us fall in love at first sip. It's available in any of our espresso classics (Americano, Cortado, Flat white etc...) or in:

- Shaken Yuzu Kiss: iced americano shaken with cold-pressed Japanese Yuzu juice
- Vanilla Lemongrass Kiss: iced americano topped with a vanilla bean & lemongrass cold foam (tastes kinda like froot loops 👀)

If you're interested in brewing it at home, we also sell retail bags of Demello Coffee!

Valentine's Day, Family Day, and Lunar New Year are all happening in one lump this year. Whether romantic love or familial love, we've got ice creams to celebrate! Along with our always flavours, we're scooping:

Tang Yuan: black sesame and sticky rice ice cream marble inspired by its namesake Chinese New Year dessert, representing family togetherness and harmony.

Honey Bun: a Vday staple at Moo Shu! Yeasted ice cream with cinnamon and honey meringues. Tastes like a cinnamon bun with honey in ice cream form!

The Mirror & Lychee: vegan rose & lychee ice cream witj raspberry jam swirled throughout. Inspired by a Chinese folktale love story!
