A great example of inclusion in action!
Integrating people with cognitive disabilities into the workplace is an essential step, but one that is often challenging and time-consuming. This is precisely what the PATCH project teams observed during their field surveys in six different countries: for inclusion to succeed, commitment alone is not enough; suitable, accessible and ready-to-use resources are also required.
Today, we would like to highlight Elodie P., who has successfully transitioned from a sheltered work environment to mainstream employment.
Elodie has recently been hired as a waitress in the restaurant run by Christophe Girault, a workplace specifically designed to support the professional inclusion of people with cognitive disabilities.
This achievement did not happen overnight. It is the result of a long-term integration pathway involving several work placements over a number of years, supported by dedicated professionals, tutors, and employers who believed in her potential.
While this success story demonstrates what is possible,
it also highlights one of the challenges we aim to address through the PATCH project. Too often, integration into the labour market requires lengthy preparation because employers and workplace tutors lack the specific tools and training needed to support people with cognitive disabilities.
Through PATCH, we are developing training resources, methodologies, and practical tools for VET trainers and company tutors. Our goal is to make workplace inclusion more effective, more secure, and more accessible, helping to reduce the time needed for successful integration while ensuring quality support for both employees and employers.
Every successful inclusion story is a reminder that talent exists everywhere when opportunities and support are provided.
