The hanging fireplace area seats up to forty, last weekend it held a family of twenty-eight, celebrating Joyce’s 90th. Saffron Grange on arrival, canapés, a bespoke two-course lunch, wine flowing, teas and coffees to finish.

The Orchard Barn Summer Kitchen Disco is nearly here, and if last summer was anything to go by, this is one you’ll want to be at.

Friday 19th June, 6 until 11pm. There’s something about the barn on a summer evening, the light dropping behind the orchard, the fire going, the whole place coming to life as the sun goes down.

Food cooked over fire, the way it should be. There’s nothing quite like wood-fired cooking, the heat, the char, the flavour you just can’t get any other way.

Fox and Braces are back behind the decks, so if you’ve been to one of our nights before, you already know how it goes. Cocktails, rosé, local beers — the bar will be fully stocked all night, and the barn will be looking its best under the stars.

Grab your friends, get down to the barn, and make it a night of it.

Beef cooked low and slow over the fire, picking up smoke as it goes. Potatoes crisped in the dripping. Yorkshires that arrive still rising. Seasonal greens, gravy by the jug, and the kind of plate that lands with a bit of weight to it.

This is what Sundays look like at Brix + Mortar. Every plate comes off the wood-fired hearth, no shortcuts, just fire, time, and proper ingredients. The kind of cooking that fills the room with woodsmoke before the food even arrives at the table.

With 30°C forecast, we’re throwing open the restaurant doors and laying tables outside in the stretch tent. Bring the family, bring the dog, bring the friends you’ve been meaning to catch up with. There’s space for everyone, sunshine on the tables, and no one’s in any rush to leave.

A gentle way into half term, and an easy lead-in to the bank holiday Monday. Less of a lunch, more of an afternoon.

New on the blog, last Saturday, the Orchard Barn did what it does best. Planes overhead, families on the grass, food from the fire, and a community that raised £700 for William Westley Primary School. It was one of those days worth writing about.

We’ve also got the Summer Kitchen Disco coming on Friday 19th June, Fox and Braces on the decks, food cooked over fire, the Airstream bar open all night. And if you’re thinking about a summer table at Brix + Mortar, now’s the time.
