It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our good friend, Trevor Counsell.
Many of you will have known Trevor as a talented narrowboat artist and sign-writer, whose remarkable work can be seen on boats throughout the waterways. Having attended Manchester Art School in the 1960s, Trevor possessed a rare artistic talent, but his skills certainly didn’t stop there. He was a fountain of knowledge, a natural problem-solver, and could seemingly fix anything he turned his hand to.
Trevor was a familiar and much-loved figure along the Shropshire Union Canal. Whether you were cruising past his boat, where he would always offer a friendly wave and a chat, or meeting him at The Anchor or The Junction Inn, where he was a loyal patron, Trevor was never far from good company and conversation.
We will remember Trev as a true gentleman, a waterways legend, and a friend to all who knew him. Kind, gentle, generous with his time, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humour, he leaves behind countless memories and friendships.
One of Trevor’s beautiful pieces of artwork remains proudly displayed within The Junction Inn, forming the stunning backdrop surrounding the shire horse in our bar area. It serves as a lasting reminder of his incredible talent and is something we will treasure forever.
Trevor’s devoted daughters, Amy and Kira, would like us to share details of his funeral arrangements and warmly invite anyone who knew him to attend.
