It’s Monarch Butterfly season in Mexico: The very special Methuselah generations of butterflies migrate each year, leaving the colder northern climes of the U.S. and Canada to take winter refuge and breed in Mexico. December Update for Mexico-Border crossings and Covid:

Land border restrictions have been extended to December 21st: Mexico’s land border restrictions have been extended again, until at least December 21st. However, we are hearing that American citizens are driving and walking into Mexico without hindrance. Tourist permits (FMMs) and Vehicle import permits (TIPs) are being issued as normal. This article summarizes the restrictions and the comments section contains anecdotal notes left by local travelers. Note that Flights between the US and Mexico are not affected by this restriction.

Mexico’s Gradual and Phased Reopening

Mexico continues to undergo a phased reopening of its economic, cultural, educational, and social activities. Each region and municipality is implementing a custom reopening plan based on a color-coded ‘traffic light’ system so the restrictions vary depending on each region and/or locality. Covid updates

Update from the Governor of BCS:

This evening State Governor, Carlos Mendoza addressed the people of BCS and said that construction and mining will be allowed in Baja California Sur starting on June 1. The governor remarked that at this point the June 1st date is tentative. He also said that at present there are no conditions to establish the date in which other activities will be allowed once again and pointed out that the dates will be defined according to the data and information from each municipality.

He also confirmed that schools at all levels will remain closed for the rest of the school year and said that
He explained that:
- That students in grades 1 through 9 will complete the year by averaging their grades to date.
- Students in grades 10 through 12 will complete the year and will be graded depending on the directives taken by each school system.
- College and University students will finish the semester online.

He remarked that the state government is focus on first, following-up and anticipating the scenarios of the pandemic; and secondly, develop the criteria and protocols to restart the economy in coordination with the private sector.
