It’s John Wayne’s birthday and if you’ve been to OST you know JW holds a special place in our hearts! So to celebrate him today, Robert, our general manager has another brief history lesson about John’s life for y’all!
On this day in 1907, at 224 South Second Street in Winterset, Iowa—Robert Marion Morrison was born in his family home. According to the Winterset Madisonian, a local news paper at the time, he weighed a whopping 13 pounds!
Known professionally as John Wayne, he excelled in sports at an early age, eventually earning a full ride football scholarship to the University of Southern California. In a twisted turn of fate, the “Duke” suffered a broken collarbone while body surfing in the Pacific Ocean which ultimately ended his future in football. However, a new career was just around the corner for John, film and television.
JW had his start in the silent film era of the 1920s, and starred in 179 films and television shows spanning over 50 years! Including productions like “Big Jake”, “True Grit”, “The Longer Day”, and “Rio Bravo!”
After his death in 1979, he reappeared in 2025 at O.S.T. for steak and beans, later shooting a hole in the Tin Man water tower to take a shower before saddling up for the ride back to Heaven, earning him official sainthood as the Patron Saint of Bandera.
Happy birthday John Wayne! 🤠
