My sincere apologies for the late notice but the Mount Bakery will not be showing the tour de France this year.
This is an incredibly important year for me, my family, my staff, and the business as a whole and I simply need to put first things first and leave this wonderful event aside in order to pay attention to the most important priorities.
While I have always cherished the tradition of showing the tour at the bakery it does come yearly with a certain amount of cost to me both in time and treasure which this year I cannot afford.
I'm profoundly grateful to everyone who's ever attended the tour at the Mount Bakery and I'm especially grateful to Olivier, the Mount Bakery founder, and Charlie Haggem for introducing me to this spectacular and beautiful and grueling sporting event. I literally knew nothing about it before they brought the first TVs to the old Mount Bakery downtown and began watching it in the mornings and once I began working with them - before there was even a glimmer of a dream of a prospect that I would become the business owner - I found that I really enjoyed the race and looked forward to it every year.
We had some incredible highs including one day when we add 165 people watching it at the downtown shop both inside and stretching down the sidewalk two different directions and we were featured on the news in Seattle for the early risers watching this crazy race.
We made a lot of T-shirts through the years early on and we gave away tons and tons of prizes including ye Old Day Olds, meals, coffee, gift cards and more.
Baltina Valente was instrumental in helping me keep the race going at the bakery and even restarting it when I had let it go during COVID and just after. Her initial attendance as a viewer led to a really fantastic relationship with the business including being a baker and a manager for us and helping me immensely to improve all aspects of this hugely challenging endeavor.
Special shout out to Don Wilcox, an inspiring and long time friend of the business and a regular attendee at the Tour de France showings.
Also a huge thank you to Dan, Doug, and John, our original "Board of Directors" for the tour showings. ❤
