The Fourth of July may be over, but America’s 250th celebration continues!

If you’re looking for a way to stay cool during this heat wave, Ken Burns’ The American Revolution is streaming free on PBS through July 12.

It’s a fascinating look at the people, events, and sacrifices that founded our nation and a perfect way to continue celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Teachers can also download free classroom and interactive resources to bring this important chapter of history to life on Ken Burns in the Classroom.

This July 4th the Salute from the Shore is back!! Starting at 1pm, the parade of aircraft will fly south along the coast of South Carolina, giving us a unique opportunity to salute our armed forces while celebrating Independence Day on South Carolina beaches. See you there!

🕐 Flyover begins at 1 PM

This year's lineup includes:
✈️ F-16s Vipers from the South Carolina Air National Guard's 169th Fighter Wing at McEntire Joint Base
✈️ A C-17 Globemaster III from the 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston
🚁 NEW! Apache helicopters from Alpha Company, 1-151st Attack Battalion of the South Carolina Army National Guard at McEntire Joint Base.
🛩️ Followed by a brigade of volunteer-flown Warbirds, including historic T-34s, T-6s, and T-28s.

The flyover will travel the entire South Carolina coastline, beginning near Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach and continuing south to the Beaufort/Bluffton area.

Grab your flags, gather your family, and join us as we honor the brave men and women who have served—and continue to serve—our country. 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the nine precious lives lost at Mother Emanuel AME Church on June 17, 2015. It was one of the darkest days in our history, but the spirit of the Lowcountry is found in its people. Even in the face of unimaginable grief and uncertainty, the light of love, faith, and community endured.

Nineteen years seems like yesterday. We remember the Charleston 9 and give thanks for the brave firefighters who serve our community. 🚒

Charleston 9
19-Year Remembrance Ceremony

Charleston, SC (June 15, 2026): The Charleston Fire Department will commemorate the 19-year anniversary of the line-of-duty loss of our nine firefighters at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 18th, 2026. The ceremony will be held at the Charleston 9 Memorial Park, 1807 Savannah Highway. Members of the fire service and our community are welcome to attend.

Standing Watch
Charleston Fire Department personnel will initiate a watch at the flagpole of the memorial park starting at midnight and continuing for the 24 hours of June 18th.

Schedule
Family members may arrive at any time prior to 7:00 PM. Limited seating will be available, families of the fallen and past members of the CFD will be offered priority seating in the tented area. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 PM. Members from the Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team and the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy will be on site to offer support throughout the event.

Ceremony
Please visit www.charleston-sc.gov/C9 for specific details regarding the memorial event. The program will start at 7:00 PM and run until approximately 7:30 PM. The event will be livestreamed on the CFD page at https://www.facebook.com/charlestonfire.

Parking
We encourage carpooling as parking in the area is limited. The Memorial Park parking lot along Savannah Highway will not be available. Limited parking will be available at the vacant lot off Wappoo Road near the West Ashley Bikeway.

Media
Fire Chief Dan Curia will be available for interviews on June 18th, 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm at the Charleston 9 Memorial Park.

Tuesday at 3pm:
Gas leak has been reported at 975 Savannah Hwy. The road will be closed for an extended period in both directions between Magnolia and Playground Rd. A third-party contractor working in the area struck a natural gas line, according to Dominion Energy spokesperson Paul Fischer.

Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes per Charleston Fire. 🔥
