The only thing we like as much as the Ashanta Wines story (elements include but are not limited to: bombing up Sonoma Mountain from L.A. to save a harvest, vines presumed dead but instead found to have been slowly and potently gathering strength) is drinking the wines themselves. It’s the drop you’ve been waiting for: THE JUNE 27 SATURDAY SIPS LINEUP!!!! Find yourself in Savoie with the wines of Camille and Mathieu Apffel, tossing back resinous reds and whites that taste like an Alpine stream. Benji is opening ‘Avant la Tempête,’ which is a white wine made from the Jacquère grape, ’Soleyane Blanc,’ which is Altesse, and ‘Soleyane Rouge,’ a red blend made of Mondeuse and Pinot Noir. These native grapes are waiting to carry you to the French mountainside from 2-4pm this Saturday. You pay nothing if you’re a wine club member, which is a great deal. It’s $10 otherwise, which is still a pretty good deal. But perhaps you should join the club, eh?
