Wow, what an amazing day we had yesterday as we got awarded as having the Number One Burger in Iowa for 2026 by the Iowa Beef Council!! We are extremely grateful and absolutely pumped!!
Nick & I had a vision for a kitchen at Dixie’s long before it actually come to fruition- I remember Nick would map out the kitchen line in our previous break room using tape on the floor to mark where everything would go. We had little space to make it happen but we knew we could absolutely make it work if we kept pushing and believing.
Our goal when we opened the kitchen was to put out high quality & fresh food. We knew our menu & space would be small, but our passion and enthusiasm was big. From the beginning we’ve focused on a small menu, fresh sauces, and high quality product. We have no freezer at Dixie’s and everything is made fresh including our hand-cut fries + we prep small batches of items throughout the week.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us & visited us since we opened our kitchen in November of 2024. It’s been a whirlwind of learning, growth, challenges, hard work, and lots of fun!! We love seeing the same faces every week but also adore meeting all the new people coming to try us for the first time! We are so blessed with the best customers!!
As for our staff, they are truly the number one reason we’ve been so successful. Our front of house knows how to rock the bar, even when they have a line for hours straight. Our kitchen works hours on end and often times they are there morning til night with minimal downtime. Our team truly kicks butt and we are so proud of them!!
Being recognized with the best burger in Iowa is so humbling but also validating. Our burger is a custom blend of chuck & brisket (it’s not a typical 80/20) which gives it so much more flavor. We ball all the four ounce patties ourselves, multiple times a week. Nick experimented with many different burgers but chose the smash burger due to the flavor the beef is able to have by doing a hard sear on the flattop. This produces the Maillard Reaction which is when the sugars and protein of the beef react with high heat, creating the brown edges on the burger but also bringing out the best flavor of the meat. We are passionate about our food & we are so happy to see that you guys are too.
A special thanks to Tim our food rep for literally always going above and beyond for us, to our family for always showing up for us, our beer reps and distributors for helping us have a great tap list, our friend Will Sayasenh Films for being our number one support and helping us capture our food in outstanding quality, and the Iowa Beef Council and Iowa Cattlemen's Association for making this all happen!
Again, we want to thank everyone who either voted for us or continues to support us. We are excited for summer & to smash thousands of patties for you guys! 🍔🍻☀️
