Now serving: Dominican Matzo Ball Soup 🍲

During World War II, the Dominican Republic opened its doors to Jewish refugees from Europe. In the seaside town of Sosúa, they built farms, raised families, and made a home. This soup, from Chef Alon Shaya’s newest cookbook- Memories of a Good Meal, brings together traditions they brought from home and the flavors of the island that welcomed them.

A lecture night, but not quite the kind you remember.

Come sip, snack, and stretch your mind with us Wednesday, October 28 from 6–8 PM as we welcome Tulane professor Jason Gaines, PhD, for an evening exploring magic, spells, and incantations.

Settle in with a welcome cocktail and signature SABA bites while Dr. Gaines takes us into the world of sympathetic magic, what makes a spell a spell, and the art of constructing an incantation of your own. We’ll consider what magic reveals about our hopes, fears, and desire for control — and you’ll even have the chance to write an incantation of your own.
