HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A WOLPERTINGER?
An old Alpine legend tells of a curious little creature known as the Wolpertinger, a mysterious chimera made up of parts from the animals of the mountains.
It’s most commonly described as having the body of a hare, antlers of a stag, and wings of a bird… although some have been spotted with fangs, duck bills, and all sorts of other questionable features.
The funny thing is, no two Wolpertingers ever seem to look exactly alike. And that’s part of the legend.
They’re said to live deep in the Alpine forests and high in the mountains, where for generations they’ve been blamed for strange tracks, mysterious noises, and those quick little glimpses of something disappearing into the fog.
Wolpertingers are mostly nocturnal, extremely shy, and very rarely seen by adults (especially sober ones).
Travelers are often told to keep an eye out for one, but locals know better than to actually go hunting for a Wolpertinger. The legend is a playful reminder that the mountains can be wild, mysterious, and unforgiving—and sometimes, after a few b**rs, you might see something you simply can’t explain.
So this Oktoberfest, keep your eyes open.
You never know when a Wolpertinger might wander into Biederman’s.
