A NOTE OF THANKS
It is a bitter sweet feeling to announce to you all that on February 21st, 2022 I have accepted an offer to sell the Hobnob space. Coincidentally, Hobnob’s opening day was February 21st, 2009.
I am very excited to introduce the new host of our corner and his team to you! He will begin working on putting his stamp and personality on it mid-March. I wish him the best and hope you will all stop by and say hello, once he gets that open sign on.
As this chapter of my life finds an ending, I have taken some time to look back and reflect on the last fourteen years.
In 2008, I had the opportunity to build something very special. My vision of the place you all know of as “Da Nob”, began to take shape. After playing with a few square and rectangle shapes in my round world, I gathered some round pegs that fit. I have to admit, I did get fairly creative to find the right team and I was pretty open to how they could have a positive effect on my core vision. Those team members are what I will always attribute the great and successful public house we were. They brought me the strength, personality, energy and the hardened tenacity that we needed to succeed. Those folks (you all know who you are) helped me build the friendly confines of the hobnob grille. Some of you only worked with me for a few months, while others were with us for most of my tenure. I cannot find the words to express what those wonderful humans meant and mean to me today. My words here don’t begin to touch the gratefulness I have towards the lessons you all have taught me. the incredible successes and failures that made us better, and the life-long relationships you all have built. So, this is my feeble attempt to express that specific love and awareness.
Over the years, I have met so many great patrons of the hobnob. It has always been my goal and my goal for my team to get to know my guests and build those relationships. If there was any success that rose up out of all the others, this goal of true connection was the one. I am so thankful for all those friendships. I so much miss being able to just come down to the bar and tell you guys my latest jokes, bs about the game, current world news craziness, and celebrate with you, and cry with you, and really just give you all a big bear hug. I think the team that I toasted above would agree; you all made da hobnob what it was and all the amazing memories that will remain. Thank you so much for the friendships you all built with me and each other. I hope to be able to palaver and connect with all of you soon. I am so Grateful.
A quick word about the new host of the corner or SE 34th and Morrison Street. The new owner brings over 30 years of hospitality experience and a core team with successful histories in some of Portland’s finest spots. Again, I hope you will take your hungry belly to see this crew as soon as they get rolling. I am sure I will.
What an amazing journey. Thank YOU! Truly at your service, Jason
