🐴🎊 Exciting News: Jennifer Rios, President of the Board of The Horse Shelter and Restaurant Martin General Manager/Co-Owner has been named the 2025 New Mexico Horseperson of the Year by the NM Horse Council.

The New Mexico Horseperson of the Year award recognizes an outstanding resident of New Mexico who has shown exceptional dedication to horses and the equine community.

Jennifer Rios has served as the President of since 2004. The Shelter was founded in 2001 as a 501 C-3 charitable organization by Jan Bandler, Jenniferʼs late mother. The mission of The Horse Shelter is to rescue, rehabilitate, and facilitate the adoption of abused, abandoned, and neglected horses throughout New Mexico.

Since becoming Board President in 2004, Jennifer has helped grow The Horse Shelter from 3 rescue horses into a thriving organization with capacity for 100 horses. Jennifer has thoughtfully built a strong Board of Directors and management team who are supported by more than 70 dedicated volunteers—many who have served for over a decade, and some who found their forever companions through adoption.

Jennifer shares this award with the incredible staff, board, and volunteers who make The Horse Shelter mission possible.👏🏼

Chef Martin’s latest culinary research led him to San Francisco for an immersive sourdough stage with Josey Baker Bread at — truly a dream experience, and we are endlessly grateful to ! 🥖

Many of you already know that every loaf at Restaurant Martin is baked in-house from scratch. We think our bread is already pretty fantastic, but Martin is always searching for ways to refine and elevate each bake. Through this opportunity with Josey Baker Bread, Martin got to learn from the masters, ask all the fermentation and room temperature questions he could come up with, and trial new shaping techniques.

Ask him about bread next time you visit — he’s always happy to talk sourdough!

After some much-needed rest, we’re so excited to welcome you back. Our holiday break wasn’t just about recharging—it was about reconnecting. ♥️

Chef Martin had the opportunity and privilege of going back to where it all began: in Mexico, immersed in the flavors, techniques, and traditions that shape Latin cuisine. From cacao farms to tortillerías, he learned directly from the families and communities who have preserved these recipes and practices for generations.

What we know—there is always more to learn—and always more to honor. Restaurant Martín isn’t traditional Mexican-style cuisine, but this journey was about deep respect for our Latin roots, our people, and the culture that continues to inspire everything we cook (and everything we do).

You’ll taste these influences in our new seasonal menu. We can’t wait to share them with you.

Happy New Year! 🎊 We want to take a second to express our gratitude to our community, near and far! It was a pleasure to celebrate the holiday season with you all, and weʼre so grateful to every person who purchased a Restaurant Martin gift card this season, chose to have your holiday dinner with us, gifted a Restaurant Martin cookbook to a loved one, and showed compassion to our staff as they worked throughout their holiday. THANK YOU 💛

Restaurant Martin will be closed until January 23rd - so that our team can enjoy some well-deserved rest and time with family. We prioritize this break every January, but don’t worry, weʼll be back soon!
