Tonight is Pesach Sheni — the holiday of second chances.

In the Torah, those who missed Passover were given a second chance exactly one month later. A whole holiday built on the idea that it’s never too late.

We thought that deserved a celebration. So today we’re serving a Swiss chard & potato minas — a layered Sephardic matzo pie rooted in Passover tradition — alongside a Swiss chard stem salad in pomegranate vinaigrette.

Meet a true fusion dish—rooted in the journey of Syrian Jews to Mexico City.

These shredded mushroom tacos bring together Jewish immigrant flavors and Mexican technique. As Syrian Jewish communities settled in Mexico City, they carried with them the flavors of the Levant—warm spices, bright acidity, layered heat—which met a rich Mexican culinary tradition. The result wasn’t one cuisine, but a blending.

This dish carries that story.

Shredded, spiced mushrooms layered with a tangy, spicy sauce inspired by Syrian flavors. Salsa macha reimagined through a Levantine lens, with dukkah spices. And refried beans with a Sephardic twist—made from fresh fava beans instead of the more typical black beans.

A delicious story of diaspora.

All in one bite.

Reb Simcha Bunem of Peshischa kept two notes in his pockets.

On one:
“For my sake the world was created.”

On the other:
“I am but dust and ashes.”

He’d reach for whichever one he needed.

At Lehrhaus, we turned Reb Simcha’s custom into a (slightly magical) ticket machine, to help keep things in balance.

Now pouring: The Kiddush Cobbler 🍷

Kiddush wine, lifted with herbal liqueur, bright citrus, and a touch of beet for depth and color. Sweet, tart, a little earthy—spring in a glass.

Refreshing, a little unexpected, and very Lehrhaus.
