Late last night a speeding car hit 4 other vehicles and sent two people to the hospital directly in front of LUX CoffeetacomTheTop@topoftacoma . The McKinley Hill Business Association has been asking for years to address the intersection at McKinley and Division, notorious for smaller accidents because of its issues around visibility and problem with speeding. Our councilman is on board but individual city council members don’t have direct control over othese projects. This is the second late night high speed crash at the same location in the last year and a half, amazingly the last time no one was injured. A traffic revision/speed mitigation effort here to force traffic to slow down is vital to the safety of this neighborhood. Things like this are an problem everywhere, and I know that there’s a huge list of issues that need to be addressed city wide, but after a decade living in the east side it becomes hard to ignore that things that are allowed to stand on the south/east side would be quickly fixed on the west and north ends of Tacoma. I don’t think it’s too much to ask that my neighbors find me making their morning coffee at 7am instead of picking up car wreckage from the parking strip.
