Oatmeal Diet & LDL Cholesterol

A 2-day intensive diet of mostly oatmeal may help reduce LDL cholesterol, according to a new study. The sudden influx of oats changed the gut microbiome, which in turn affected how cholesterol is processed. Participants ate a diet made up almost exclusively of oatmeal (300g of oatmeal a day, 100g at each meal) for 2 days. They were allowed to supplement the oatmeal with a little fruit or vegetables. Overall, they consumed about half of their usual daily calories. The participants lost about 4 lbs., saw a slight reduction in blood pressure and had a 10% drop in LDL cholesterol. The LDL benefit lasted for 6 weeks after the diet.

The first ever Friday Night of The Late Scoop was incredible! The soda fountain was full the whole night and I only took one picture! Thank you for tagging us in your own! We sold through our brownies à la mode early and the banana splits were going so quick we had to make a last-minute run to buy more!

We had a huge amount of support and felt overjoyed by so many smiling faces and the liveliness of Main Street buzzing with community! Our hearts are full, and we can’t wait to do it again 🥰

Getting ready for the first Friday night of The Late Scoop! We are celebrating the occasion with a delicious special! Our friends at Hummingbird Bakery are baking some of their incredible brownies to be served warm at the Soda Fountain, with a scoop of our Blue Bell ice cream! We are also bringing back the Banana Split, by popular demand.
We hope yall will enjoy the dinners offered around town at B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery, Courthouse Cafe, Crawdad Hole or where ever you choose to fill your bellies! Just remember to save room for dessert 😋🍦🩷

Vitamin D & IBD

Vitamin D supplementation may help “reset” the body's immune system and improve gut health in those with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who have low levels of vitamin D. In a recent study, researchers found that after 3 months of high-dose vitamin D (50,000 IU orally once a week), the majority of patients reported reduced symptoms and better quality of life. Analysis of blood, stool and symptoms reflected lower inflammatory markers. The vitamin D appeared to promote the growth of beneficial gut microbes. More study is needed, but those with IBD may want to talk with their doctors regarding their vitamin D blood levels and supplementation.

Beginning this Friday, we’re excited to announce our historic soda fountain is staying open late every Friday evening during the summer for “The Late Scoop”!

As more of our amazing neighbors and fellow Main Street business owners are keeping their doors open for dinner, we wanted to do our part too and join in on the fun! We love seeing evening dining options continue to grow in Water Valley, and we hope you’ll make a night of it!
