The national week of NAIDOC may have wrapped up but celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures doesn't stop when the calendar page turns.

Culture isn't celebrated for just one week, it's every day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We're proud to continue backing, celebrating, and amplifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, stories, cultures, and achievements all year round.

Always was Deadly, Always will be Deadly. Follow our page to stay tuned for more AFLS updates.

Geraldton NAIDOC Community Celebration

Last Friday, the AFLS Geraldton team was proud to co-host this year's Geraldton NAIDOC Community Event alongside our partners from the Justice Community Network Committee (JCNC).

It was a fantastic day that brought the community together to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, connection, and strength. A special shout-out to our own Steven Kelly, who did a fantastic job as Master of Ceremonies, guiding the day's proceedings and helping create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone in attendance.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and contributed to making the day such a success. Events like these highlight the strength of collaboration and the importance of creating spaces where community can come together to celebrate culture, share knowledge, and build connections.

A special thank you to all the organisations within the Justice Community Network Committee whose partnership and commitment helped make this event possible.

Together, we continue to honour the spirit of NAIDOC, not just during NAIDOC Week, but every day.

Western Australian Community Notice ☎️

For women and children experiencing domestic violence, if you have a hidden safe phone, we recommend turning it OFF, giving it to a safe person, or switching it to airplane mode on July 27th at 12pm.

A new national warning system (called the AusAlert test) will send a safety alarm to all phones at this time, even if the volume is turned down, or it’s on silent / do not disturb.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week in Waroona! πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

The AFLS team joined local community to celebrate NAIDOC Week, standing alongside community to celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC Week. The team attended the event, connecting with community members and sharing information about the culturally safe legal and support services available through Aboriginal Family Legal Services.

The day was filled with community spirit, with families enjoying sports activities, arts and crafts, the Deadly 50 Art Exhibition and a community BBQ. It was wonderful to see people of all ages coming together to celebrate culture, connection and community.

A big thank you to the Waroona Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation (WAATSIC), local organisations and community partners for bringing this fantastic event together. AFLS is proud to support opportunities that strengthen community wellbeing and celebrate Aboriginal culture during NAIDOC Week.

To mark the beginning of NAIDOC Week, the Aboriginal Family Legal Services (AFLS) Geraldton team was proud to visit local schools to deliver culturally safe and engaging activities focused on healthy relationships, friendship, and respect.

Through these sessions, students explored the importance of building positive, respectful relationships while celebrating the strength of Aboriginal culture, identity, and community. Creating opportunities for young people to learn in culturally safe environments is an important part of AFLS's commitment to supporting strong families, empowering communities, and promoting wellbeing.

We extend our sincere thanks to Champion Bay Senior High School , Bluff Point Primary School, WA, Australia , and Waggrakine Primary School for welcoming our team and partnering with us to support the next generation through meaningful conversations during NAIDOC Week.

Together, we continue to strengthen communities by fostering respect, cultural pride, and safe, healthy relationships.
