Walleye spawn take update from Doyle Hass, Assistant Area Supervisor | Division of Fish and Wildlife:

Dock construction will continue Thursday and Friday, and we plan to put the webbing in on Friday. If all goes well, we should start seeing fish on Saturday.

This year’s quota is just under 600 quarts, and we expect to run through Tuesday. Because the Grand Rapids hatchery is still under repair, our local eggs will be hatched in Bemidji or Cass Lake.

We are also participating in a delayed fry hatching project, which means a small portion of the eggs will be collected about a week later than usual. The dock and webbing will stay in place during that time, but the trap will not be operating for a few days.

Our quota has not increased — part of it is simply being collected later than normal. Thanks for following along with this year’s operation.

Attention
If you guys are fishing, Pokegama Lake in Northern Minnesota the Grand Rapids area please take caution. There is a large crack with open water. The crack has already gobbled up a couple rigs trying to chase Walleyes. I’ll post a picture below of the general area of the crack . These photos are recent in the last 24 hours and with the warm temperatures it’s only going to get worse also please share to get it out in the Grand Rapids area.

Who doesn’t love catching smallmouth in shallow water especially with a Jig and a minnow! We were pitching 8 oz B max jigs with a spot tail super fun bite to get on !

We really did it today. Lake Winnie is pumping out A pile of slot Fish (18 to 23) along with plenty of keepers to go with them if you’re just patient enough….
