From the customer who has recently taken their very first steps into Du’s Grill to the loyal stalwarts who have been coming for the last three decades of our existence… I truly appreciate every last one of you from the bottom of my heart. But the truly dedicated fans, the unwavering-in-all-circumstances fans, I feel like I really do owe them something special. So I decided to look up how I could show my love for ONLY FANS and HOLY LAWD WAIT A SEC THAT IS NOT WHAT I HAD IN MIND ummm how bout some extra cups of sauce instead

Word is the city is looking to rename Cesar Chavez Blvd fairly quickly. If I could throw my suggestion into the box LEFT RIGHT ON SANDY LEFT ON 54TH. It’d take up a lot of space on the highway exit sign but I think it gets to the point

A BIT LATE BUT DU’S GRILL IS CLOSED FOR MEMORIAL DAY!
———
I don’t share a lot of personal info on this page. And in general, the really personal things I tend to keep close to the chest. But in my advancing age, I’m learning it’s better to learn to share. And this in particular, as a lot of you knew my father, even if it was just a few words while picking up an order, it seemed selfish to keep to myself. And Memorial Day seemed like an appropriate day to share… my father, Bae Wung Park (or “Peter” to many), passed away about a month ago. Fortunately, his passing was quick and peaceful. Many of you remember him for his affable personality and the way he so effortlessly made you feel welcome the moment you set foot in the store. I know this because I am constantly asked how he is doing since it has been over a decade since he put in regular hours at Du’s Grill. He loved you all just as equally and your unwavering loyalty was never lost on him. Thank you for supporting his business over the years and making him feel remembered and loved. Little known fact: he was literally a week away from becoming a sandwich shop owner before Du’s Grill altered his destiny. And I know, in large part to all of you, he would have chosen this path a thousand times out of a thousand 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏

In a previous life, I used to work for Nintendo customer service and gameplay. I answered phones and helped people hook up their systems, order magazine subscriptions. But some people loved Nintendo so much they called simply to express their affection for the brand. One woman, in particular, started her call with me by saying how much she loved Mario while cackling a bit unnervingly. Nintendo had a fairly open policy on customer calls; unless explicitly profane or abusive, we were free to chat with the customer as long as they wanted or warranted. So I listened politely as she told me how fun Mario was and how cute Mario was how wish she could take Mario home with her to be her friend forever.

I think about that woman from time to time. And having since become a small business owner, it has become an unspoken goal of mine that people would love our product so passionately that if we had a customer service line, they would call up just to talk about how much they love teriyaki and how cute teriyaki is and how they wish they could take teriyaki home to be their friend. Maybe not forever. I’d say 30 minutes on average. But the good news is you can get another teriyaki to be another friend. Cackling as you eat is highly encouraged.

A prolonged stretch of sun upended by one random, sudden day of rain calls for one thing… my recreation of the running Stephen Colbert gag when he cursed the hot K-Pop star of the time, RAIN, for superseding him in popularity using whatever metric of measuring popularity that they used in 2007. “RAAAAAIIIIIIINNNN!!!!” Colbert would cry while shaking his fist to the sky. I’m serious. Google it. This was an actual bit. Which seemed even more novel at the time because this was pre-Gangnam-Style and pre-BTS and before K-Pop had become the cultural juggernaut it has become today. Nowadays, you can literally find K-Pop on your Happy Meals. What a time to be alive

Yes. Sometimes I eat cheeseburgers for breakfast. But only when I’m in Keizer before noon. And want to pretend I’m Samuel Jackson in “Pulp Fiction” before they blast those dudes in the apartment who screwed over Marcellus Wallace. Also, Du’s Grill wasn’t open for breakfast. You don’t do as I do. You be patient for another hour and go have Du’s Grill for lunch. Then I won’t have to bust into your apartment and quote verses from the book@of Ezekiel in the Tarantino Standard Version. You WOULD like my Sam Jackson impression though. Ask me to take your order in my Sam Jackson voice next time you see me at the store. I’ve been quoting that movie for over two decades. BTW these are the ramblings that run through my head when I have to be on Keizer before noon

WELLSPENT MARKET remains the one and only retail establishment which has ever carried and sold Du’s Grill Sauce and Dressing!!! It was a short lived era due to our co-packer ceasing their bottling operations. But I was always grateful to WSM for helping to bear the Du’s Grill torch to the uninitiated far and wide!!! So I was out about in McMinnville and saw them at the Mac Market!!! Mac Market is one fine and dandy market to be housing a market as fine and dandy as Well Spent!!! Thank you for the delicious salad to accompany my pizza and beer WSM!!!!!
